A Dragon

In a moment when the bloodstream is full of poison
And my mind is clouded by drunkenness,
My entire life changed.
My ears started ringing from the crispness of the news.
I collapsed gouging rocks between my skin and the bone.
The feeling of being a hollow vessel
After my entire world was ripped from me.
I lay there searching for any breathe left in my lungs.

A dragon that was looking to be chased
Caught the eye of my best friend, my brother.
The one where my sense of security was hiding.
A constant that became erratic.
As I relied on him for world underneath me to remain whole,
He relied on escaping from everything.
Choosing to become the dragon over himself.
How could you do that when I needed you?
I was crumbling to pieces but was weakly taping myself together.
To be strong for you was to be strong for myself.

I watch you walk in the room in chains and sit in the seat in front of me.
Your skin looks ghostly in the brown scrubs they’ve put you in.
I hope you don’t see how broken I am.
As I look into your eyes I know you’re doing the same.

I believe in you but I need you to believe in yourself.
Let the dragon go.

  2. I like this because “the dragon” can represent something different for everyone. And that’s what makes your poetry amazing. I can not only learn more about what you go through but I can connect it to my life and take from it what I need to live and grow. Thank you for blowing my mind again with your talent and heart ❤
